Setting up your Telegram Mini App (TMA)
A TMA opens straight from a Telegram chat. There is no app store review to wait for, so your customers can be using it under your own name quickly.
What a TMA gives you
A TMA is an app your customers open from a Telegram chat. You do not have to build an app from scratch or wait for a store review, and what they see carries your name rather than ours.
If you already run a community on Telegram, members can open the app without leaving the conversation and check their balance or their rewards. It also works well as a membership card or a place to show points earned. In regions where Telegram is widely used, it removes the step of asking customers to install something new. And because nothing is queued for review, it is quick enough for a short campaign.
We need to switch it on for you
TMA is enabled per merchant at our end. That message means it has not been enabled for your account yet. Please ask us through a support ticket or our contact form.
When we set it up, we provide the Telegram bot that acts as the entrance to the app. There is nothing for you to create on the Telegram side.
What you can configure
Everything below is under "TMA design settings" in the admin screens.
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Service name | Required, up to 80 characters |
| Short name | Up to 30 characters, used where space is tight. Falls back to the service name |
| Logo | JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 2 MB. SVG is not supported |
| Contact email | Shown inside the app |
| Terms URL | A link to your own terms page |
| Privacy policy URL | A link to your own privacy policy |
The primary and accent colours are set at our end and cannot be changed from the merchant screens. If you have particular colours in mind, send us the hex codes (for example #1E88E5) and we will apply them.
Checking how it looks
A preview URL is shown on the settings screen. Open it after saving to see the app as your customers will.
If you already have the app open, changes will not appear straight away. Close it and open it again.
A few things worth getting right
Please point the terms and privacy links at your own pages. Left empty, customers have no way to find out who to contact.
Logos work best close to square; wide images tend to be cropped. Service names are worth keeping short too, as Telegram has limited width and long names are truncated.
Using it with custom tokens
A TMA pairs with custom tokens: holders open the app, see what they hold and exchange it for points.
If issuing a token is not something you are planning, a TMA works perfectly well on its own.
